Hyphens, Corgis Endangered

Anneclaire Le Royer, TIME
The latest update to the New York Times' stylebook is leaner on hyphens. But, fear not hyphen-ophiles: in the linguistic equivalent of the conservation of matter,  "newer hyphenated words, like pre-twerk, will keep replacing some of the collapsed, hyphen-less ones."

It's a devil's bargain if words like "pre-twerk" compensate for the loss of "e-mail," but I suppose the punctuation wrecking ball swings both ways.

In other news, corgis - like hyphens - may be endangered.
